AUGUST 2001 MINUTES ARCHIVE
09:10pm Wed Aug 22, 2001
Well here we are, it’s hump-day before the BTM and we’re calling it off!  You heard it right…  Summer’s still going strong and we’re just unable to find a date that works so we’ll let Summer be Summer and force everyone to spend it outdoors (…we’re such bastards!..)  After all, who would want to be launching rockets at the heads of friends when there’s so much to do outside?  You don’t want to let 2001 pass you by without having your fair chance to catch a nice bout of West Nile Virus from mosquitoes!?  Hell no!!  As a matter-o-fact, I’m typing this Minutes update from the backyard on a laptop while smothered in calf’s blood sitting by the pool who’s pump I’ve turned off in order to create a nice stagnant breeding ground for our fine blood lusting winged pricks.

Simple truth is I’m being yanked to the cottage by the Croatian Slave Alliance and under whip influence I’ll be setting rocks and wire underwater and building a 40’ dock across the front of the entire cottage.  No, I don’t want to do it…  Yes, I will be doing it.  But I’m told it will build “character” (…like I need anymore of that shit…)  Regardless…  BTM27 will be in the “Fall”, that’s the loose term for “Date yet to be announced”.

I think I'm going to HURL!!!Many, many emails regarding the SuperFTP…  Here’s the scoop, we’re redoing a large portion of the directory that I can’t talk about (…Okay, it’s the MP3 folder with 4,892 Croatian Folk Songs…) as well as fixing up a couple other issues, it’s taking time but if anyone out there who does not work for a living would care to donate their time, I’m accepting all offers.  When it’s done, we’ll deal with the issue of the Gateway not letting the public SEE the friggin’ thing.  Yes, it’s up and running, no, you can’t get to it…  (…Down Gateway!  Down!!  Bad Gateway, bad!..)  Sorry, that must have been the Beer talking.  It appears even the Netgear’s “DMZ” (…De Militarized Zone…) won’t let the ping loose.  We’re working on it.

We’re also still being hit with many questions regarding the Abattoir Morning Haha!!  As it stands, we’re not going to see a tradition like that just die, it will be coming back, Folks…  Wait for it!

That’s it for now, enjoy your BTM’less weekend and we’ll see you all in the Fall.  Until then, be sure to drink plenty of Beer, and watch the MeatCAM for the “End of August Breast-Feast” (…always like to leave the update with a, “Huh?”…)  Oh...  By the way, I didn't have a graphic for this update, so I just thought I'd be "graphic" and show you what I'm eating while I'm writing this...  Sick, huh?

Woah!  Did I just “cancel with only a few day’s notice”?  Cool…  Now you know how I feel, Tempest!

1,999,999 Bottles of Beer on the wall...What a beauty, eh!? (...both of 'em...)Holly Matrimony, Batman!  We’re back from New Jersey and what a blast Jeff (Viking/Madball) and Kristie's wedding was!  We’re not talking a City Hall deal here, when these families plan a wedding, it’s a whole deal!  Over 1,670km’s were clocked on this trip and my ass is even flatter than before (…I also can’t feel the left side of my body…) but well worth the trip down!

A huge thanks to Jeff and Kristie who opened up their home to the two “Canadian Refugees” and made us feel at home with Molson Canadian in the fridge and a good stock of Rush CDs handy in case home sickness kicked in.  Hospitality unrivaled, I hope we’re given the chance to reciprocate your generosity when you decide to come up and stay the week at “Chez Abattoir”.

The Happy CoupleI don’t think I’ve seen quite as spectacular a wedding reception before.  An entire room decked out in caviar, duck, salmon and sauces…  The wedding was flawless and fun!  We wish you both the very best in your new life together.

Breaking a whole 180 degrees back to Abattoir news…  Yes the SuperFTP is down as well as the Game Servers, we’re redoing a bunch’o’crap and it’s going to take a little bit of time, so please bare with us!  We’re beefing-up the SuperFTP yet again, as well as adding a new LinkSys switch to help manage it all a little “smoother”.  There’s an excellent chance you’ll have to re-apply for your SuperFTP Account after all’s said and done, but we’re also making “Guest” login provisions for the occasional Abattoir readers out there who want to “rape without identity”.  We’ll keep you posted on our progress.

As many have noticed, we’ve bumped the date for BTM27 a week back to the 25th of August.  After the date was announced a week or so back we received quite a bit of mail saying the date “sucked”.  We’re doing our best to accommodate as many people as possible, but like we said before, the Summer months are very difficult to schedule for many people with all the outdoor, Summer kinda’ stuff going on.  If you signed-up for BTM27 last week, you’ve been left in the BTM List, please make sure the date change is still good for you and please advise us if it’s not!!

Off to Viking land! We’re hitting the road!  (…and hopefully no trees…) We’ve packed our bags and we’re heading to the grand USA to attend the wedding of Viking/Madball and PMS (…or better know as Jeff Walker and Kristie Kobrynowicz…) in Budd Lake, New Jersey!  It’s an interesting thing really, Jeff and I met back in 1994 on Globalserve’s Quake Server and became good friends lobbing rockets at each others head.  Over the years we’ve kept in contact through email, then one year, on their vacation trip they decided to detour into Canada for the first time and made a trip to “the totally male, testosterone fogged Abattoir” (…his words…).  It was the first time we all met.

Aren't they cute!!?Here we are years later and Jeff and Kristie are getting married and they’ve invited an old Quake buddy to come down and celebrate their great day…  Funny really!  On behalf of all the Abattoir readers out there, we wish you two the very best, you’re good people! (…and we’ll see you in person in about 10 hours!..)  Off for our 720km adventure now, if you don’t hear from me in four days, call the police!!

In other Abattoir news, we’ve been throwing the idea around of re-scheduling BTM27 to the August 25th weekend (…a week later…) due to incompatibilities with too many players.  The summer months are understandably a difficult time to schedule events with seasonal distractions like cottage’s and vacations and such all intensified.  If you’re on the list, we’ll leave you there for now, but consider the date changed!  Let me know if this works out better for you.

As you probably may know, sadly the Abattoir Morning Haha!! which has been running since 1992 has officially been shelved due to Microsoft closing down ListBOT in favour of changing its name to ListBuilder and demanding $149 US a year.  After the announcement, we woke to over 200 emails from all over the world!  Most thanked us for the great run, many threatened suicide if we pulled the plug, some just said “NO!!!”.  Thanks for all your support, and a big thanks to the ISP’s who actually mailed us saying they were willing to run the list for us free of charge in order to keep the Morning Haha!! alive…  We’ll be examining our options, the user base has been downloaded and sits safe on my machine, fret not, the Abattoir Morning Haha!! will once again live.

Have a great and safe long weekend, folks!
